Storytelling through textiles, colour and pattern.

Yinka Ilori’s OPE RUG will enrich your home with history and culture.

Earlier this year, Yinka’s major installation “Types of Happiness” was unveiled at London’s Royal Docks – over centuries deliveries of Caribbean rum, coffee, sugarcane and tobacco would arrive on ship into the London docks. Taking inspiration from the exchange of cultures and the oceanic routes the ships would travel, Yinka’s graphic and brightly hued artwork is titled “omi”, meaning “water” in Yoruba. Note the orange and blue ripples and the contrasting barrel-shaped details – each referencing the historic moment and time.

Individually woven by hand, this rug is intricately crafted by skilled artisans in Nepal using Tibetan wool. Each rug is crafted using a 'hand knot' technique, a highly intricate and complex craft with thousands of individual, tightly knotted yarns making up the abstract pattern which is then carved by hand. This technique ensures both superior quality and durability.

Please note that this rug is made to order and as it's handmade in Nepal, it will take 10-14 weeks to be produced.
